Our foundation

Fundación Samu in Spain, and its sister organization, Samu Foundation in the United States, have ample experience in providing social services to those who suffer most. In 2022 and 2023, we have assisted over 20,000 men, women and children in acute need. We have been successful in providing for migrant families and unaccompanied migrant children. Samu is one of the largest European organizations in number of migrant children under its care. In the United States, Samu is one of the leading entities providing comfort to migrants arriving to Washington DC. Samu has over 3.000 staff working in five countries. As part its R&D&I policy, Samu created its research institute, which actively collaborates with many universities and institutions.

The importance of being allies

Growing migrant and refugee flows constitute an international phenomenon affecting the lives of millions of people around the world. From a scientific point of view, the subject of migration is being addressed by multiple universities and organizations. Global societies are already addressing complex social, economic, and security challenges to provide for migrants and refugees. Creating an environment where leading academic experts can share their findings and collaborate on research projects. Enriching and sharing our knowledge on migration will generate new solutions to improve many lives.

Immigrant arrivals pose a short-term burden on host countries, and as a result it tends to be stigmatized by a small but domineering sector of the population. However, immigrants’ long-term positive impact on diversity, economic development, and growth has yet to be fully researched, understood, and explained.

Our research shows that most migrants are ambitious, hard-working individuals that have a positive contribution to society when they settle. Working migrants pay taxes, contribute to pension funds, allow faster growth in companies, and reduce poverty in their countries of origin through remittances and technology transfer. They also bring in new cultural riches and assist in connecting our different views of the world.
